…and, again, it comes from Incurable Hippie.
It’s about domestic abuse.
Think about it, the most conservative statistics state that 1 in 7 women experience domestic violence in their lives. One out of every SEVEN women forced to live with this. Why isn’t there an outcry? Where are the banners, the protests, the emergency legislation, the national and international committees resolving to sort this problem by the end of the year?
And men aren’t taught to hate us? They don’t act out those lessons? There is no joined up-ness between the promotion of women hating and actual women hating?
Some people would have us believe that the promotion of women hating is simply ‘entertainment’ and that those who go so far as to actually hurt women have an inherent ‘problem’ that this “entertainment” somehow activates.
Whatever.
If you actually care about women, one woman is one woman too many.

no indeed men aren’t taught to hate women. sadly there is no need. we are all brought up in a society that both subtly and overtly devalues and others women in every sphere. (waits for readers to collapse in astonishment at this amazing new revelation…hmmm oh well so maybe you knew this). women aren’t taught to hate women either but it’s so easy for them to fall into it and its symptoms including the body abuse of dieting and ‘fashion’ (i’m not even including the various eating-related illnesses in this). but apart from people like you calling society as a whole and class man on it, where do we go next? and i know lots of the people who write here DO go beyond it (and i don’t). so tell us: how you all suggest we do the next bit?

I’m baffled. One out of seven women is battered ergo one out of seven men is an abuser aprox. To say that these men are somehow defective means that a seventh of the male race is naturally defective, should be locked up or killed (depending on your view of capital punishment etc…
and us saying that there is something going wrong to prompt that is hating?
This is getting ridiculous. I haven’t checked the stats but this problem probably affects more people than AIDs.

I googled, newt, and found this:
In 1993, the World Development Report of the World Bank estimated that “women ages 15 to 44 lose more Discounted Health Years of Life (DHYLs) to rape and domestic violence than to breast cancer, cervical cancer, obstructed labour, heart disease, AIDS, respiratory infections, motor vehicle accidents or war.”

SW - bits of this from Jackson Katz could well be doable: http://www.jacksonkatz.com/topten.html
