…this week by the return of absent bloggers.
Mad Sheila bursts back from her working sojourn ‘elsewhere’ (dossing about taking pictures if you ask me, but, hey…
) with an examination of how what women look like is more important than what we do. Alyx’s ascerbic style makes me laugh out loud as I’m spluttering “bastards” at my screen.
A taste:
If patriarchy refuses to recognise pulchritude in its chosen ones, they’re less disadvantaged than their female counterparts—Number of Intelligent Women who’ve gotten their clothes off for Playboy: The female half of MENSA. Number of Male Brain-Surgeons who’ve posed for Playgirl: Exactly Zero.
And it’s with huge relief and massive respect that I’m able to link to a post by amananta - a woman who almost stopped blogging but whose writing is so inspirational she’s a ‘must read’. In this post amananta explains the day to day realities of being mentally ill.
A taste.
We live in a world where people are judged by how they look and how much money they make and if we are not capable of making much money because we can’t hold own a job because our illness makes it too painful and difficult, we are considered nothings; and if we dress or behave oddly we are denied human contact because no one wants to get near to, touch, or talk to a crazy person.
And The Shouty Woman is back! After three months away thinking about her beliefs and re-evaluating her feminism Lucy is posting again. Her come-back post is thoughtful, honest and refreshing to read.
A taste.
Although I stopped writing, I continued to read feminist blogs, including those of (for want of a better term) sex-positive feminists. While I disagreed with them - sometimes strongly - about certain issues, I found that there was plenty of common ground between us, particularly when it came to ideas of choice and bodily autonomy.
And last, but by no means least, my good friend Z is blogging again - and I’m very happy about that.

I’m priviledged to be able to do so. And the rest of what amananta has written is so right on… I hope you have the time to explore there, my friend.

I wish I had answers, but I do not. I really hope one day I will have some answers.
