Well I’ll Go To The Foot Of My Stairs…

Wow! Wednesday November 8th 2006…

November 8, 2006 · 7 Comments

…could go down in history as the day the world started to take in a big, deep breath in the hope that we can all soon heave a collective huge sigh of relief. There’s no doubt about it, that frisson of expectant change for the better is everywhere - and nowhere is it better expressed than by ginmar and the commenters to her post I went to bed in a dictatorship and woke up in a democracy as further news was breaking.

Ginmar wisely cautions:

This is not the end, though. This is the beginning. Don’t relax. We have a lot of work to do.

and

There is momentum here. We cannot falter or slow down.

Thank you, all you right thinking Merkins. Please don’t falter.

sorry to piss all over everyone’s freedom fries, but they still have americans in charge, and the bulk of opposition to the war in iarq is based not on its immorality but the number of dead americans - has anyone mentioned that a couple of iraqis might have sustained minor bruising…
but hey rumsfeld has gone so it’s a start

Nice to have a woman as the Speaker of the House, too. There are some pretty happy folk over there on the other side of the pond today.

Oh Witchy, must you bring up merkins at this time of day. (tee hee! Juvenile giggling. Sorry.) My biggest thrill in all this election hooha has been the South Dakota total ban on abortion getting defeated. I’m intending to buy many many rounds of drinks this weekend purely because it makes me so happy. xx

Hey simplywondered: a lot of Americans talk (and have talked) about the horrors in Iraq and the war b/c of it’s effect on the Iraqi people.

So the majority is a little slow to pick up on the fact that the war was for nothing but dubya playing avenger for his pappy’s mistakes. Kind of hard for most people to get that kind of information when all the “news” outlets just spit out what the White House tells them verbatim. God it would be great to have real news.

burrowklown - your point is quite true; mine was an overgeneralisation for effect - you correct it when you talk of ‘the majority’.
    hands up - fair cop
