Well, as I bang my head against my keyboard, I quote the borg: assimilate, assimilate, you know you want to! Let us all now bow our heads, as we meander to the MAN. But, isn’t it ironic? –To quote the Lady. I think irony died today. Irony, sweet irony, it feels so good and somehow justified: all the hard work that has been done! The man saw me. I am saved. Playboy loves me, really really loves me. The world is working as it should.
Lord, love a duck, I am fucked.
Yeppers - and they (alas and pandagon) don’t think they’re sell outs, after all they have so many of their minions who support them. Just cause they’ve pissed off some of the ugly feminazis doesn’t mean much to them…
They can now go to sleep in peace knowing that they’re fans and followers still really, really love them.
Who knows - maybe just a little moreso now that they are just as porn loving as the rest!
Perhaps in order to be or become a ‘popular’ feminist, means one is doing something very, very, wrong indeed?
I don’t know, I’ll have to look up the “Nasty and Unpopular Feminism” reference handbook. I had already burnt my copy of “Nice Feminism: How to PANDA to the man”.
I despise Playboy, but I resist writing off Pandagon. I disagree with Pam and Amanda a fair amount, and I generally avoid the comments threads because they are so rarely productive, to put it lightly. But don’t some of you find the posts interesting and challenging sometimes? Maddening sometimes too, I’ve been there, but still worthwhile. Playboy has a rich history of trying to co-opt women’s groups. The company used to help fund NOW, and still subsidizes “feminst against censorship” groups, which I see as astroturf (fake grass roots). I’m sure Playboy is surreptitously active in the feminist blogosphere, it makes sense that the company would be, but I don’t think Playboy funds Pandagon in any way, and I hope that never happens.

One of the problems that I have with groups like “Feminists Against Censorship” (and there is actually a blog of the same name) is that they only ever seem to be worried about protecting porn from censorship, and write little about feminist matters. Much of what is on the FAC site, sounds like men’s words.
I tend to agree with your suspicion of pro-porn (the so-called anti-censorship) sites, and the what or who is behind them. And yes, playboy do tend to co-opt women’s groups.
Guess it’s the old thing of ‘keep your friends close, and your enemies closer’.
Stormcloud: I find feminist groups that accept donations from pornographers deeply problematic for many reasons, sorry if I wasn’t clear about that. I believe that the adult entertainmant industry has its slimy tentacle in the feminist blogosphere, and I don’t believe for a minute the Alas Blog situation is the worst of it, even. I just don’t think this is true of Pandagon. I think the views expressed by Amanda and Pam are authentic, even as I disagree with them, sometimes quite powerfully. I could be wrong, it has happened before.
I don’t know Pandagon that well, only that they are a bit too pro-porn (or is that not anti-porn enough?) for my liking. My last comment was directed at my deep suspicion towards the FAC and others like it, not specifically Pandagon.
In many ways I wish that all pro-porn fems would be more open about it, rather than hiding behind ‘pro-sex’ and ‘anti-censorship’ labels (and often skirting around certain areas).

I’ve been of the same opinion for some while now - particularly when noting the tactics used by certain commenters on feminist blogs and most noticably in discussions about porn.
I also agree that some of the posts at Pandagon are interesting and challenging - they certainly help me to hone my argument sometimes! I’m not writing Pandagon off but I’m interested to see what impact, if any, recognition from the the Playboy porn empire has and where it leads to (if anywhere).
That said, I’d still far rather feature on a major radio network in New Zealand; but that’s just me
I think they only interview people who are already in the country for lectures, etc. saves paying fares.
But if you’ve ever in NZ Witchy, I’m sure they’d be interested in interviewing you…their budget is not spectacular, to put it mildly. But they’re the only radio that provides alternative thought without taking an obvious stance. Good stuff, I’ve learned a lot.
but it’s radio!!!!!!!! - they could interview someone who isn’t there - even the kiwis must have worked this one out
sounds like a clever bastard is twiddling with the cat’s whiskers again, mitch

I believe Pandagon are going to do a rebranding, the current shortlist:
Pandaporn
Pornagon
With the slogan:
We put the pawn into pawnography!

Laurelin called them on it a little while ago.

You were clear. Perhaps it was I that was not?

Hey Witchy, can you wangle a guest spot on the NZ radio? They’d have to fly you over, wine and dine you…..
